Di forum Global Development Conversation. Chief UNDP Helen Clark akan menjawab pertanyaan yang kita ajukan yang berkaitan dengan kemiskinan, sustainable development dan masalah MDG’s lainnya. Bermodal Bahasa Inggris yang pas-pasan, iseng2 aku ngajuin satu pertanyaan. Sepele sih tapi pertanyaan ini selalu menggelitikku. Dan ternyata mendapat respon dari orang nomor satu UNDP ini dan beberapa orang lain dari belahan bumi yang lain..
Me : are you sure that we can end poverty? or just reduce it?
Helen : Our world CAN end absolute poverty ! That is the aim of the MDG’s
X : Yes now we were asking about MDG’s but we failed to achieve these 8 Goals
Me maybe it's impossible to achieve MDG's, but is that a reason not to try? at least we can reduce it
Helen : It's not impossible - and we must try.
Me : yes, we must try and i hope our achievement is not only in data, but also in reality
Helen : Actually a lot of the #MDG targets can be achieved by #2015, but progress needs to #accelerate
X : Why we are waiting for 2015, we should start to think right now to give it practical form
Helen : We are not waiting for #2015. We are all working hard to achieve as many #MDG targets as possible by then.
Me : thank you Helen, i love your optimistic
Helen : No other way to go - life is too short for pessimism
Masalah kemiskinan memang sangat kompleks. Dan dibutuhkan peran dari berbagai pihak dalam “mengentaskan” nya. Bukannya saya pesimis, namun saya realistis saja. Untuk “end poverty” dengan target tahun 2015 kita belum bisa. Apalagi ditengah carut marutnya kondisi Indonesia dan korupsi yang menggurita.
